I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Dev Saab passing away.

Over the years it seemed as if Devsaab had figured out the formula for agelessness.

I spoke to him quite recently before the release of his film Chargesheet. He was all so exuberant gearing up for his next film.

DevSaab epitomises a believer, a dreamer and someone who loved to romance the ladies and most importantly life! His movies, his music have connected all generations and perhaps the most befitting song is “Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya, har fikr ko dhuein mein udata chala gaya”

It was a matter of honour when a lot of my Radio Karishma.com listeners called me up Sunday morning expressing their shock and grief over Dev Saab’s death.

I am truly grateful that my listeners grasped my admiration for the amazing Dev Anand. He was self-confidence personified. He was integrity in action. He was the greatest star ever because he did not carry the burden of his stardom. That was the charm of this fabulous man called Dev Anand. He was accessible, articulate and adorable.

If you have known Dev Anand, you don’t need to go to any Spiritual Guru. He lived life the way the best and the noblest of men and women can never ever live.

You just have to look at his life, his philosophy, his simplicity, to understand the profound spirituality and deep sense of humanity he practised.

Yes, friends, Dev Anand was my Spiritual Guru.

I first met him on the sets of ‘Tere Mere Sapne’ in Mehboob Studio,Bandra, while doing my Master’s in Management in Bombay. I had a lot of meetings with him, from then on. Dev Saab was a true star. I don’t care how his films fared at the box-office. I loved his passion for life and films.

He made GUIDE, JEWEL THIEF,JOHNNY MERA NAAM, HARE RAMA HARE KRISHNA, TERE GHAR KE SAMNE, CID, and so many remarkable films, and all those magical songs, with Goldie Anand, S.D and R.D.Burman, Sahir, Shailendra,Neeraj, needs nothing else.Dev Saab is FOREVER.

Dev Anand was one of the most positive individuals in the world. No wonder the ‘Evergreen’ tag was reserved exclusively for him. There was something so endearing about his enthusiasm for life and all the riches it offered, it charmed his harshest critics.

Dev Saab radiated positivism, and his ‘never-say-die’attitude was inspirational. We expected him to live forever, too. There was no looking back for the man who always insisted it was only the now that mattered and all thoughts had to be focused on the future. He meant it. Jaunty, perennially cheerful, gung-ho and talkative, it was impossible not to love him. His zest for making ‘motion pictures’ was matched by his insatiable appetite for working all the time. Disciplined and meticulous, he lived by his own rules. People found his innocence and exuberance infectious. Dev Saab understood branding and the real meaning of ‘star power’ before anybody else. His image was carefully

constructed and jealously guarded by him throughout his extraordinary life. From the way he dressed, with a stylish jacket, colourful scarves and high collared shirts, Dev Saab was always on top of his profession. The endearing tilt to his head, as he nodded away, became his trademark. Some may have ridiculed his attempts to hang on to his youth, there were many,many others who genuinely admired the way he refused to give up. “Never-say-die.”
In film after film, fans went to watch Dev Anand, and not the character he was supposed to be playing. It didn’t matter whether he was a ‘Jewel Thief ’ or a ‘Guide’.

I think Dev Anand didn’t really care how he’d be remembered. It was too distant and distasteful a thought to the 88-year-old. Death was something that happened to other people. Old people.

Dev Anand still had a lot of life ahead of him… more scripts to write, several ‘motion pictures’ still to shoot, countless beautiful starlets to discover. No, you don’t say ‘goodbye’ to someone like Dev Saab. He’d laugh and look over his shoulder to see who you were addressing!

Dev Anand must be in heaven, scouting for new faces, contemporary concepts, picturesque locations.

No, he won’t offer God the lead role. That is reserved for him in perpetuity. It’s true. A real hero never dies.

Legends don’t die... they just exit the present leaving behind a past that the future can imbibe.

Golden Era of Hindi Film Music

Imagine the world without Hindi film music.

Imagine the world without Lata Mangeshkar,Asha Bhosle,Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Geeta Dutt, Talat Mahmood, Hemant Kumar,Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor,Shamshad Beghum, Mubarak Beghum,Pancham,Anil Biswas,C.Ramchandra,S.D., SJ,LP,Jaidev,A.R.Rehman and all those great stalwarts of the enchanting Hindi film music.

These Masters have created the spellbinding music that is casting a magic-spell over generations after generations and shall continue to weave magic through centuries. Now and forever. Whatever the era and whatever the century. Beyond the boundaries of time.

Hindi film music is healing and we must use it to that effect.

In my Human-Relations Workshops, I have used Hindi film music to an amazing effect.

Imagine Rafi's "Kabhi Khhud pe, kabhi haalaat pe ronaa aayaa, baat nikli toh har baat pe ronaa aayaa".This Jaidev-Sahir Ludhianvi-Rafi-Dev Anand eternal,creates absolute soothing vibrations in the troubled hearts and I have seen people breaking down, and in the cathartic process, accepting their anxieties and turmoil and gradually healing.
